Ms. Gibson & The Youth Leadership Council

"Ms. Gibson strives daily to guarantee her students are happy, healthy, safe, and drug

free. Students can always rely on her for advice, resources, or just someone to talk to,” says Cody Wilson of the Youth Leadership Council. "I nominated Ms. Gibson because she is the perfect candidate for the YLC Advocate of the Year, as she continually advocates on behalf of the YLC, what we do and what we believe in.” Cody, of Newark Catholic, is not the only YLC representative to believe that Ms. Gibson is highly deserving of this honor. Everyone could unanimously come to the conclusion that Ms. Gibson is a vital part of her student’s environment, for the YLC, and for Heath High School.

Ms. Gibson, Heath High School’s theatre teacher and librarian, won the honor of being Youth Leadership Council’s Advocate of the Year due to her commitment to her students and school. She says that she feels overjoyed (and maybe even a little embarrassed from all this recognition); “I just feel grateful to be able to work with students who put forth such goodness.” She feels as though this honor is a great achievement for herself, but that she was never out for the applause, only to help her students. “Often times adults don’t think highly of teens, but they don’t realize how wonderful they can be, they work for the good of the community.” While Ms. Gibson is very happy to be receiving this award she also wishes the best for the YLC and its members.

Paul Collier, a member of the YLC, says that Ms. Gibson cares for all of her students and will always go to great lengths to help with any problems that may be in their lives. Ms. Gibson is out to help anyone who is need of it, whether that is a YLC cause that is dear to their heart or a personal one. Michelle Chen said that she nominated Ms. Gibson for this award because she is very hands-on with the YLC with always pushing people to apply or with their social media presence.

Ms. Gibson has touched the lives of many of her students with her helpful nature and desire to make everything in the best interest of others, so now it is only fitting for her to reap what she sowed and achieve this YLC 2018 Advocate of the Year award!
